Why a factory visit is worth the trip
You can read a spec sheet in minutes. What a visit adds is proof: the condition of the line, how the team handles materials, and whether the QC bench is real or just for show. It’s also the fastest way to align on a custom belt — bring a sample or a drawing and you can walk the build process with the people who would actually make it.
What the workshop tour covers
A typical visit walks through six stations. The order can shift, but these are the ones that matter.
1. Raw material and compounding
It starts with the rubber. Most of our automotive and industrial belts use EPDM or chloroprene (CR) as the base polymer, mixed with carbon black, oils, and curing agents in a Banbury-style internal mixer. The aim is even dispersion — a stray clump is a future failure point. The tensile cords (polyester, aramid, or glass fiber) are treated with an RFL adhesive so they bond to the rubber instead of sliding inside it. This step decides how much load a belt can carry without stretching.
2. Belt building and extrusion
The treated cords are laid into the rubber compound and the profile is formed — extruded for V-ribs, built up in layers for wrapped V-belts, or wound onto a mandrel for timing belts. Dimensional control here sets the final fit in the pulley groove.
3. Vulcanization (curing)
The green belts go into curing presses under heat and pressure. This cross-links the rubber and locks in the shape — the V-angle on a V-belt, the teeth on a timing belt. Temperature, pressure, and time are held to tight windows; small drift shows up later as noise or early wear.
4. Grinding, cutting, and trimming
After curing, sleeves are cooled and ground to the exact profile, then cut to width and length. Diamond tooling keeps edges clean so the belt runs quiet and sits true in the groove.
5. Inspection and testing
This is the station buyers should watch longest. Beyond a visual check, belts are pulled on a tensile tester, measured for length and pitch (timing-belt teeth are checked against the mold with optical projection), and run on fatigue and noise rigs. Lines are built to standards such as ISO 5292, ISO 1813, and RMA IP-20, and every batch carries traceability back to its raw materials.
6. Packaging
Finished belts are marked with size and batch code, then packed for the channel — bulk for distributors, branded or neutral for OEM.
